The death of the Messiah was the beginning of something new --- a New Covenant. The prophets of old had prophesied of a time in the future when God would forgive the sins of his people, give them an inheritance, and restore them to the land that he promised. It was Jesus the Messiah who brought to fulfillment all the covenant promises God had made to Abraham, Israel, and David.
